Tips to Prevent/TREAT YOUR INJURY:
If your back pain is severe, bed rest may be needed, but if at all possible it should not be more than a day.

Avoid high impact activities but start light activities as soon as you can, such as short walks. Slow movement is good!
Try to do most of the normal things you do at work and at home except heavy lifting or twisting may need to be modified.
You may find applying heat packs soothing in the first day or two.
Posture is very important. When you are sitting or standing, have your shoulders relaxed back and you should feel tall. Good posture allows your muscles and joints to work effectively. When sitting, sit in a hard chair not the couch! Ideally with a rolled up towel in the small of your back for support
Avoid long periods of sitting or standing. Regularly change position and stretch, or get up and move frequently.
